Science Week

Well this week is science week and the children in red class are super excited to be hosting our Science Federation Day here at Sutton this Friday.
We've been doing our own little bit of science in the classroom this week by planting bean seeds.  The children are eagerly awaiting for them to grow so they can visit the Giant!

Number Hunt!

We have continued to explore numbers this week and went out and about to find them in our environment.  We searched the school and then went out into Denise Close.

We found numbers everywhere!!  Can you find numbers in your house or out and about? Take some photos of them. You can share them with us on tapestry or print them off and bring them in.

World Book Day

We had a great day on Thursday for World Book Day with lots of amazing book inspired costumes.

The children spent the day doing four different activities inspired by four favourite stories.

One session in the Hall with Mr Upton was based on We're Going On a Bear Hunt and involved bears, indoor hockey sticks and the parachute.

In Red Class we enjoyed the story of The Day the Crayons Quit. We talked about favourite colours, wrote letters and did lots of drawing.

Orange Class was full of dragons. The children listened to Tell Me a Dragon before creating their own.

In Green Class there was lots of counting with money as the children listened to The Great Pet Sale.

Jack and the Beanstalk

This week Red Class have been exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  They have been listening out for all the rhyming words in the version of the book we have been using.

On Friday we started to make a story map of Jack and the Beanstalk. We talked about how the story started and put all the different parts of the story in the correct order. We managed to get Jack to the door of the giant's castle.....
The wonderful thing about writing together is that the children then want to have a go independently so soon there were lots of beanstalks and lots of writing and drawing in Red Class.

Here is a link to our Where's the Monkey positional language song.

Where's Grandma?

The children have taken on the role of detectives this week. On Monday when they went into assembly our classroom became a crime scene! The children had to find pieces of evidence and piece them all together. They discovered that Little Red Riding Hood's Grandma had gone missing, oh no!!

Today after assembly the children found footsteps which led up to our cupboard. Had they found Grandma?

Emma, our special helper, opened the door and there was Grandma and she had treats in her basket to share.  Well done Red Class for being super detectives.

Role play and writing

The children have been retelling some of the traditional tales we have looked at together in class, a firm favourite is The Three Little Pigs.  This week we have started to have a go at writing our own version of a fairy tale by mixing up ones we already know.

In maths we have been exploring numicon and using these to help us write number sentences (sums).
